Well guys, I'm going to be gone. It might be for one day, it might be for a week, I'm not really sure. It's actually a rather funny story, kind of... I'm not feeling good at all, I feel really sick, and I might have Salmonellosis. It all started Friday night when I went to a carnival. They were selling these baby turtles, and so my mom and I stopped to see them. We thought they were cute, and my brother really wanted one, so we bought a turtle. Well, we brought it home, put it in the tank, and so far it hasn't died (I'm surprised, since we found out it is blind in one eye.) Since Saturday I have had really bad headaches and stomach aches. I'm usually always alright, and I almost never get sick, since the last time I was sick was in sixth grade when I had the flue.
Well, today in the news paper, I found this arcticle:
Confidential To My Readers: The FDA has asked me to remind you that pet turtles may be harmful to your children's health. Small turtles are a source of a disease called salmonellosis in humans. It's caused by salmonella bacteria, which occur naturally in turtles.
Symptoms may include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, fever and head ache. Symptoms usually begin six to 72 hours after exposure, and generally last two to seven days.
Anyone can get salmonella infection, but the risk is highest in infants and young children, the elderly, and people with lowered natural resistance to disease due to pregnancy, cancer, chemotherapy, organ transplants, diabetes and liver problems.
Readers, if you or children come into contact with, or handle turtles, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water . Sales of turtles with shells less than 4 inches in length have been banned in the United States since 1975 because of the public health impact of turtle-associated salmonellosis.
Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!! Boy, if I could get my hands on those carnival jerks they wouldn't sell turtles ever again. Anyway, I wont be here. I don't know for how long, but I'll be back. Talk to you all later!
